Emotionally Focused Therapy

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a structured, generally short-term evidence-based therapeutic approach to expand and reorganize important emotional responses and foster the creation of a secure bond between partners.

Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma are windows into emotional dysregulation, caused by attachment distress and reinforced by secondary strategies. Recent research shows that anxiety and depression can be framed as emotional disorders.

When things go wrong we develop “secondary” strategies as humans. We may become hyperactivated, deactivated or anxious and avoidant. Emotion allows us vital information about how we experience ourselves, our interpersonal relationships, and our world. It also mobilizes us into action in our attachment relationships.

These strategies, the wisest responses you had for survival at that time, may not be serving you well now. As we work, you will recognize and explore your feelings and needs underneath your behaviors, deepen your understanding and acceptance of your humanness and discover more effective strategies.
